About Bagan city

Bagan city

Located in the Mandalay Region of Myanmar, Bagan is an ancient capital of Kingdom of Pagan from the 9th to the 13th centuries. This city is the most historical site in Myanmar and the richest archeological site in Asia, lying on the left bank the Ayeyarwaddy River in the dry zone of central Myanmar. The kings, who reigned during the 11th to 13th centuries, united the people of Bagan and created the fundamental structures to govern the social, economic and administrative systems which would form foundation for present day Myanmar. Under their guidance Bagan became a sophisticated city of wealth and power. During that time, thousands of temples, pagodas and monasteries were built along the Ayayarwady river, overwhelm the landscape. Nowadays, over 2000 temples still survive, they are now the must-see attractions in Bagan.
